Garnacha Rioja Alavesa

BAIGORRI GARNACHA, THE BEST GARNACHA OF RIOJA ALAVESA BY THE INTERNATIONAL CONCOURS ‘GRENACHES DU MONDE’

Garnacha is a minority grape type in Rioja, which make this distinction really attractive for us since BAIGORRI Garnacha has been awarded with the Gold Medal in the international concours “Grenaches du monde”.

BAIGORRI Garnacha has become the best valued Rioja Alavesa wine in the contest, as it has been the only wine from this sub region to get this distinction.
A total of 80 wine tasters from 12 countries around the world have been part of the competition jury. This jury has been created and regulated by the Conseil Interprofessionnel des Vins du Roussillon (France).

BAIGORRI Garnacha
BAIGORRI Garnacha is made from 65-year-old-vines located higher than 7000 meters above sea level in a very poor clay-ferrous soils.
After a hand-made and selective harvest, the grapes enter the winery and are selected by vibration and weight. Then it is destemmed without crushing and maceration in cold is carried out in stainless steel tanks with controlled temperatures looking for long and deep intracellular fermentations. The turning overs are sone by natural gravity, very unique of BAIGORRI, by means of two cranes and small auxiliary tanks of 2000 litters of capacity. A pneumatic press is used for the final extraction of the wine, after which it is taken into new French oak barrels for the malolactic fermentation. Finally, its oxidative ageing goes on for 14 months.
